As a member of the team in charge of engine and After-Treatment calibration development for medium duty applications (5 liters and 8 liters engines) you will be involved in improving Software/Calibration Verification & Validation methods and tools as well as carrying out tests on actual engine and vehicles.
Changes on combustion and After-Treatment system settings are driven either by quality issue in the field to be solved, by cost reductions project on the current systems or by coming legislation evolution (EuroVI Step E, EuroVII…).

To meet these challenges, an enforcement of simulation work and representativeness of tests on the various test objects is needed. This challenge is especially needed in Exhaust After-Treatment System (EATS) for which a deep analysis shall be done. A data mining to understand current key factors influencing the gap between test rig, vehicle and simulation on all applications is the first step. Then, identification of actions to close the gap is required. At last, development and validation on the proposed solutions
Daily activity will be split between simulation run on the Virtual Test Rig (VTR), MATLAB and GT-Power, data processing and modeling for result analysis and engine test bench or vehicle tests follow-up for model validation.

The target of the training will be:
·     Work together with a Calibration Engineer to understand what are his/her role and responsibilities in VOLVO Powertrain organization and to learn the tools to be used and the processes to be applied to perform engine tests, analyses results and identify influencing factors.
·     Then, as an autonomous member of the team working under the lead of the Performance Leader, to take the responsibility of identifying factors generating gaps between the different test supports and proposing ways of improvement of test methods and simulation tools.

As part of continuous improvement of combustion section, you will contribute to investigate development test plan optimization with the outcomes of your work and propose improvement development area. You will take the responsibility of carrying out associated tests and knowledge management activities (test plan, guidelines ..).
