DNV GL is recruiting an engineer to address the growth of demand for wind project development work in France. The primary focus of this role is to undertake technical analysis of onshore and offshore wind farms at the pre-construction stage of development. This will involve producing detailed, high quality reports for customers to enable them to decide upon the feasibility of developing the wind farm project.

The position is based in Paris and will require site visits in France and occasional travel abroad. The Project Development team is composed of 8 young, gender-diverse and enthusiastic engineers; we expect the candidate personality to blend well into this multicultural team.


Job description

  • Providing technical advice and assistance including:

    • Undertaking energy production assessments which include site visits, wind data processing and quality checking, correlation analysis, wind flow and wake modelling, review of energy losses, statistical analysis and reporting;

    • Undertaking site conditions assessments which include elements of the above but also a review of extreme wind speed, ambient and wake induced turbulence intensity, wind shear and temperature range;

    • Producing detailed reports which review the feasibility of sites for development which will include feasibility studies, layout optimization, site meteorological measurements, shadow flicker assessment, noise modelling and visual impact assessment;

  • Checking other’s work to ensure its compliance with DNV GL best practice techniques;

  • Liaising with a wide range of Customers from wind farm developers to financial institutions;

  • Managing multiple projects to ensure they are completed within timescale and budget;

  • Producing written reports and other documentation for delivery to the client;

  • Participating in R&D projects and supporting continuous improvement of procedures;

  • Assistance with presenting at external and client training courses. 

  • Mandatory: 5-year degree in an engineering, physics, atmospheric science or mathematics field;
  • Mandatory: experience in a similar role in wind energy (0.5 years minimum, 3 years maximum);
  • Knowledge in wind energy industry software (i.e.: WindFarmer, WAsP, CFD), tools for statistical analysis of data (Access, SQL) and measurement techniques would be an asset;
  • Autonomous with good organisational and effective time management skills;
  • Ability to work in a consultancy environment - operating to tight timescales;
  • Strong attention to detail in order to produce accurate and high quality reports for our Customer;
  • Adaptability and ability to cope with a wide variety of tasks;
  • Fluency in English and French;
  • Ability to produce clear written reports and communicate verbally in English and French;
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills (both oral and written);
  • Good IT skills, and experience using MS Office suite packages. Knowledge of data science tools (database tools, Python, Power BI, etc.) would be an asset.
